Like any new mom, I was stressed about my 6 month-old baby girl transitioning to solid food. Although there has been some stress, feeding at our house has been a fun experience, and along the way, we have found some really fun things to make feeding more enjoyable — for both baby and parents!

Here are some ways we’ve learned How To Make Food Fun:

  1. The best advice I received from my pediatrician was to have fun! Feeding and mealtime is all about enjoying food and the company at the table. It is as much about developing social skills as it is about eating. Our family all sits down together and eats at least one meal together a day. My daughter loves this, and she has the “opportunity” to “steal” food off our plate. We love to use this high chair at our kitchen island; it helps her to be close to us while we eat! We have always tried to feed her whatever we are eating. Now that she’s passed the “allergy” test, no foods are off limits, and we will have her try anything!

  2. Our favorite “first” spoons are these because there is no right or wrong way with these spoons, and she experienced quick success with eating.

  3. Then, she transitioned to this spoon and fork set. The fork and spoon are still a work in progress at 15 months of age, but practice is making it better (and less messy).

  4. The EZPZ mini mat is our plate of choice. It is hands-down the MOST awesome plate for little ones because it’s a placemat and plate in one, AND it suctions to the table. No more plates thrown across the kitchen! It comes with a bag so it is easily portable to restaurants and grandparents’ house. I recommend getting at least 2 of these because you will be using them all the time.

  5. Last but not least, this straw cup is amazing! It is stainless steel, so no worries about plastics, and the cup and straw are easy to clean. We have two, and use them all the time. The bonus is that a straw cup also helps to strengthen speech muscles, too!
