The New Year is a great time to start new family routines and improve speech, language, and social skills. Whether you pick one of these, or all of these, you can’t go wrong with better speech and language!
Here are a few of our favorite Better Speech and Language New Year’s Resolutions!
-
Start a Family Game Night:
-
Family Game night is an amazing way to connect as a family and have fun, too!
-
From Candy Land to Monopoly, games are a great way to build language and social skills.
-
-
Start a “Family Book Club”:
-
Book clubs don’t have to be just an adult activity. Make a big deal about the book of the month by posting it on the refrigerator for everyone to see!
-
Pick a night each week for the family to gather together to discuss the parts you are all reading, giving everyone an opportunity to share.
-
Side Note: Choosing books that also have movies about them make a good reward for when you finish the book. Hello, Family Movie Night!
-
-
Play “America Ninja Warrior” on the weekends!
-
Set up obstacle courses in your house or yard.
-
Have your child explain the course to you. Then, complete it together as a family.
-
Bonus: It will help develop motor skills, and everyone gets some great exercise!
-
-
Host a monthly “Open Mic Night” at your house.
-
Invite your children’s friends, too, and have dinner and/or dessert together!
-
Each person (including the adults) will create an original song, poem, or rap. Who knows, you might also get some great YouTube footage!
-
Happy New Year! We love our MTS family!
