The “golf-ball game” is an easy and fun way to play with your children while helping them learn!
This entertaining activity works to improve their speech while working on their prepositional phrases. It’s simple enough to play at home and involves everyday household items.
All you need is a few cups with openings cut into the front, a golf ball, a golf club and objects to place on/inside of the cups.
To play the game:
- Line the cups up.
- Place the objects around the cups all in different places (inside, behind, on top, or in front).
- Have your child hit the golf ball toward the cups to try to make the ball inside one of the cups.
- Whichever cup the ball goes into, ask your child what the relationship between the object and the cup is. For example, their response would be similar to: “The *object* is behind the cup!”
This game is a great way to spend time with your kids and keep them active in the summer to avoid the “summer slide.”
It’s also engaging and entertaining for your child, so they are excited to participate! They don’t feel like they’re working on speech, but just playing a game with mom and dad!
This game would be great to try with your child at home to help them advance their speech by working on using prepositional phrases.
