Dying fountains green, pinching people and more … St. Patrick’s Day has a lot of fun traditions for adults. Make a fun tradition with your family, and get crafty this St. Patrick’s holiday with these neat craft ideas.
Froot Loop Marshmallow Rainbows
This great craft from Jonesing2Create.com is colorful and easy … just so long as you don’t eat all the Froot Loops first.
Grab some marshmallows, some pipe cleaners and some Froot Loops (don’t worry, generic cereal will do).
Have your children thread the pipe cleaners through the cereal. Bend the cleaners and stick each end into a marshmallow. Make sure they can stand on their own; if they won’t, try wetting the bottoms of the marshmallows.
They’re great for developing fine motor skills.
Handprint Shamrock
Washable green paint and white paper are all you need for this craft, shared by MommyEvolution.com. If you’d like something that you can keep forever, consider buying a cheap canvas in the crafts section at your nearest big box store.
Slather the green paint on your kid’s hands, and have him or her make four handprints in the pattern of a four-leaf clover or shamrock. Draw a green stem and you’re done! Be sure to write their name and age on the bottom for a craft you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
Rainbow Paper Plate Craft
When it comes to this craft project, you won’t find treasure over the rainbow. It’ll be sitting next to you, as your little one makes a rainbow from construction paper, cotton balls and party streamers (or colored tissue paper), using these instructions from innerchildfun.com.
Using safety scissors, ask your child to fold a paper plate in half and cut along the creased line.
Using tape, place the long strips of colorful paper in the proper order – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet (ROY G BIV!).
Flip the paper plate over, and ask your child to apply glue to the inside of the plate. Then he or she can place the cotton balls on top.
Green Food Taste Testing Party
Got a picky eater? Use the green holiday to have your child try green foods! B-InspiredMama.com offers this festive activity.
Choose nine green foods – broccoli, celery, green jello, green grapes, etc. Place each food inside the individual cups of a muffin tin.
For extra credit, make a chart with smiles and frowns on it, so your child can circle how they felt about each food.
