Time to spring forward! Daylight Saving Time starts Sunday, March 10, at 2 a.m.
Setting your clock forward an hour can throw off everyone’s sleep and make waking up rough for you and the kids. I’ve got a few ideas to make the time change a little easier. They’re from MayoClinic.org, but I added a few kid-specific points of my own:
1 week before: Wake your children up 15-20 minutes earlier and/or go to bed 15-20 earlier, whichever is easier. If they go to bed early, then you should, too!
1 day before: Get outside and get moving around midday. Let your children wear themselves out! This will help with sleeping that night.
Before sleep, avoid: Heavy meals, caffeine, stress and screen time.
On the day of: Wake your children up at regular time. If you usually let them sleep in on a Sunday, consider waking them up at their normal weekday time.
One the day of: Get outside and play for at least an hour. The light helps your body adjust.
Try these things, and everyone will be adjusted to the change in no time at all!
