Fun, free, and warm: Cures for the Winter Blues

Winter blues got you feeling down? Can’t wait for warmer weather so you can get out of the house with your kiddos?

We’re here to help!

Try one of these fun FREE activities with your children this winter.

In Spartanburg, SC

Visit the Downtown Spartanburg Library: This is a huge favorite of ours! It has tons of games and activities for children of all ages, and story time, too! If the weather is nice, the outdoor play area is amazing (and dirt-free because of the astroturf). More info

Take a trip to PetCo: In our family, we call the PetCo on our side of town the “Eastside Zoo.” We love to go in to look at all the animals, and even pet the dogs that other pet owners are bringing in to shop. It’s a special treat when we see dogs and cats getting a “haircut!” More info

Go to Barnes & Noble: This is another staple in our family. We give our children the heads-up that we are only going to Barnes & Noble to play, not to buy anything. That helps them be ready to leave empty-handed when the time comes. We love the free story times and the great train table! More info

Check out the NCG Movie Theater: Did you know that NCG has special needs-certified sensory friendly FREE movie times? Check their website to find their upcoming showtimes and promotions. More info

Go to Westgate Mall: The mall isn’t just for shopping! It also has a great play area near the food court, especially for children under 3 years. Our family has a great time there, and bonus points if I get to pick up a pair of shoes for me … there’s a shoe store next to the play area! More info

Go to Spartanburg Science Center: Even though the Science Center does charge an admission fee ($2.00 for adult and children over 5), children under 5 get in free! It is the coolest place! You can hold animals, like snakes, hedgehogs, and turtles. There is a GIANT Lego table, and a huge marble wall. It is well worth the $2.00! More info

In Greenville, SC

Greenville Main Library’s PAL Center: Make a play date with your child’s BFF … it has activities for children of all ages! More info

Greenville County Museum of Art: Did you know you can visit the Greenville County Museum of Art absolutely free? Give your kids a taste of culture and teach them to appreciate beautiful masterpieces from around the world. This would be a great field trip or educational experience for older kids, too! More info
